The specific labor relationships within Hacienda Fagua, at least for the twentieth century, have been described in the ethnography of Laura Umaña (1981). From 1917 to 1941 Hacienda Fagua employed both temporary wage workers called jornaleros temporales and tenant laborers. The specific terms used for tenant laborers in Fagua are arrendatario and aparcero rather than concertado. The tenant arrangement, according to Umaña, was a strategy of the hacendado to provide the hacienda with a stable labor force.
