Cold Hardy Texas Prickly Pear Cactus Pad - Large
Texas Prickly Cactus(Opuntia lindheimeri) pad is approximately 8-12 inches.
First picture shows the flower color, the photos of the individual pads are similar to the pad you will receive, and the last photo show several mature plants planted next to each other.
To get pad to root, lay on top of soil in a sunny well drained area. Soil can be gently worked before placing cactus pad over it in order to assist in allowing the pad to root in. A rock can also be placed on top of the pad toward the base where the cut mark is to also further assist the pad root and keep it from inverting(Prickly pear pads are known to invert when attempting to root into new soil).
This variety of prickly pear is hardy to -10F (but probably could survive colder if on the south side of a building or protected area/microclimate.
These cactus pads are edible for people and tortoise.
